Upcycling Home Decor!

BEFORE

AFTER

I wanted some artwork to hang on my daughters wall and became inspired while in the craft store the other day. Scrapbook paper was on sale so I perused the aisle and had a thought about how to make inexpensive pictures to hang on her wall. I found a scrapbook paper I liked that matched her room and then checked out the local goodwill to find some frames. A few coats of spray paint and VOILA! This project was completed for less than $15 and you could easily do it cheaper if you check a few thrift stores, I only went to one. It's also super quick taking about 20 mins. start to finish (not including drying time). I plan on hanging them tomorrow and I think they will look very nice on her walls.

Recent Projects

Here are a few things I have worked on (or finished) recently.

The first is a curtain I made on Tuesday. I have been wanting to make one for this door since we moved in but never did it. Now I don't know why because it literally took about an hour even with 2 kids running around (ok 1 running, 1 screaming). Anyway it was a good project since it was instant gratification. I may get more fabric and make a valance for the dining room (if I can get Brian to put up the curtain rod I bought) and one for the kitchen. Since it's all one big open area it may look better to use all the same fabric.

The next one are the big bro/lil sis shirts I made for Nathan and Emma. I have had these partially finished for some time but just outlined them with fabric paint this week. I wish I could have found a plain white shirt for Nathan but no luck. I plan on having pictures done wearing these once Emma can sit up. That's when we will be going for our updated family pics since there is a lot more you can do once the child sits.

Just a close up of the letters and fabric. It's all very patriotic, mainly because I couldn't find coordinating fabrics I liked that also went with the red shirt. I do know though that the portrait studio has an American flag so I may just go all out. Oh and the red shade below is what the color is, it's not as dark as the picture above.

I also have a mystery project I completed which happens to be a gift so pictures to follow after delivery. And I have an orange skirt I made Emma whose picture is not on the computer yet. Also today I went rotary blade crazy and cut out the fabric for 2 skirts, bench cushions for Nathan's table (including lining fabric so I can take off covers to change or wash) and also fabric for some heating pads (also including lining fabric for the same reasons). Now just to find time to iron and sew!
