Grey's Knitting

So I have finished my Grey's knitting poject. This was done on the basis of the Half-Pipe Hat pattern found in Son of a Stitch and Bitch. I modified to fit a smaller head and did the entire hat in 1 by 1 ribbing. For a first attempt I am happy with how it turned out. I will probably be making more and some changes will be made but overal I am pleased. The best part is it fits. This is my son modeling the finished hat. He looks so cute in it!!

The second picture is from the side so you can see the brim. The brim is smaller than I had wanted it and smaller than it started out. It was probably twice as big but after a small mishap it ended up smaller. The brim is made out of plastic canvas. I had read to melt the ends so they were smooth so it didn't snag your yarn. This was a good idea and worked well however as I was doing this I guess the plastic got too hot and melted all the way. Well what I did not realize was that is was over my leg! Well you guessed it it dripped on my leg burning through my pj bottoms and then my skin. Somehow I managed to also get it on my left ring finger. Thankfully they were both small spots but I do believe it's a 2nd or 3rd degree burn especially considering when I went to peel the plastic off of my knee my skin came too!! My finger has quite a nasty blister and killed me the rest of the night but like I said both of the spots are small. Today I am ok, my fingers good unless you touch it and my knee just feels like I scraped it. It turned out to be quite the afternoon. Anyway the second time I MADE SURE it wasn't over my leg and I got the hang of getting it just hot enough but not too hot. Sometimes we have to learn things the hard way.

Anyway it's done and I am sure I will be making more of these, perhaps even one for myself.

Aww..the sacrifices we make for art. Maybe you should invest in a crafting first aid kit, lol.
